Overview
Timeline of assignments coming up still:
- Nov. 29 – Dec. 3: Third mandatory meeting with Brianna, with the first draft of the second essay.
- Dec. 5: second version of second essay
- Dec. 6 – 10: small “un-essay” project: a chance to demonstrate what you learned about tea, using a different creative format. Details to follow, due on Dec. 11
- Dec. 12: Third and final reflection
- Dec. 13 – 14: Third and final check in via Zoom, when we agree on the final grade for the course.
By Tuesday, 12:30PM
Prepare for class: View the following
- Warner, Adam, dir. “This World. Season 11, episode 1: The Tea Trail With Simon Reeve”. BBC 2014.
- Questions for focus: Why have the British (and the rest of the world, for that matter) not yet left behind many of the undesirable practices associated with tea trade? What are the parallels and differences you see with earlier periods?
- If you wrote your essay on this topic, you can bring your expert knowledge to this session!
There will be small breakout rooms for discussion and reporting back to the large group – very similar to our regular classroom work. I kindly request that you turn on your camera, it does help to make the session more lively. (You can have fun with filters and fun backgrounds, as long as they’re not inappropriate.)
Thursday, 12:30PM
Peer feedback
As previously, providing and receiving feedback from your peers is an important step in the writing process, and it is a useful skill to learn. We will use this session to be right there with each other. You can hop into breakout rooms with your writer/feedback provider to discuss issues, or with me if you have questions. You have to make your essay available to your peer in Google Docs for commenting/suggesting.
This time will be available for you to make appointments with Brianna, in addition to the other time slots she offers for the third mandatory meeting. She’ll have specific instructions on when, where and how to join her (in person or online). If you can’t join the peer feedback session because you’re with Brianna, you’ll catch up on the peer feedback at a different time but before 11.59PM Thursday night.
Sunday, 11:59PM
Essay 2: revised version
Find all the details on the dedicated webpage
Basics: due by Sunday, as a Google Doc shared with Dr. D and Brianna for commenting. You can submit a new document, or update your existing document.
Looking ahead
Next week is our final week of classes and you get a chance to review all the previous course materials and do a small creative assignment or “un-essay”.
