A few days ago this article about superfoods showed up in the recommendations on Pocket in my Firefox browser, with a fact-check on foods and drinks that are labelled superfoods. (Here a superfood was defined as foods/drinks that provide benefits even if consumed in normal amounts).
It was not too surprising to see green tea show up for closer scrutiny, because it has long been touted as a health beverage. The good news is that it appears to deserve that reputation! Two studies show that green tea, and coffee, appears to offer protection against some forms of cancer. No need to go overboard with your green tea or coffee intake, but no need to cut it out, either. Check out the first study (on green tea) and the second study (green tea and coffee). (Bio and chem students may find these interesting.)
